Firefly Lane season 2 part 2 lands on Netflix on April 27, and sadly, it’ll be the last time we see one of our favorite fictional best friend duos. Kate and Tully’s (Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke) story will officially wrap up in the remaining seven episodes of the final season, and we’re in no way ready to say goodbye.

Based on the New York Times best-selling novel of the same name by Kristin Hannah, comes a show telling the story of the enduring friendship between two inseparable best friends. Kate and Tully meet as teens on Firefly Lane and quickly become thick as thieves. As the years go on, they continue to remain friends, while going through life’s ups and downs together.

Since there have been two seasons of the romantic drama series, the cast has had to work together for quite some time now. After spending so much time together, real-life friendships may have been made. Could this have been the case for the show’s leading stars, Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke? Here’s what we know.

Yes, it appears that Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke are friends in real life.

According to an interview that Chalke did with Parade back in February 2021, she had met Heigl before she had even joined the Firefly Lane cast. They were connected and met through mutual friend/actor Dulé Hill. Heigl had mentioned to Hill that she was moving to Vancouver to shoot Firefly Lane and needed someone to basically show her around, give her moving advice, and help her find schools for her kids. Hill told Heigl that he knew of someone who could help her out, and that person ended up being Chalke, who was living in Vancouver at the time.

Chalke tells Parade, “When I got the script, I’d already talked to Katie [Heigl] like a month before, and she told me a tiny bit about the show, but mostly we chatted about kids, schools and neighborhoods. We just instantly connected and had a lot in common. And that just grew from there once we got onto set.”

In December 2022, Heigl appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show to promote the second season of Firefly Lane and spoke highly of Chalke. She said, “Sarah Chalke is like… I mean, Sarah will be your best friend and it makes it a thousand times easier. It was so fun and I felt so safe with Sarah.”

That same month, Chalke spoke with Shondaland and said this about her friendship with Heigl,

"“We hit it off, and I really liked her, but it really grew when we got to work together. She’s incredibly talented but also kind and loves to laugh. We laughed every day. We were so happy to come back to a second season for the show too. You have your whole rhythms in place. She will be a friend for life.”"

So, there you have it, folks! Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke are friends in real life, and it looks like they’ll remain friends throughout the rest of their lives.

You can catch Heigl and Chalke as Tully and Kate in Firefly Lane season 2 part 2, arriving on Netflix on April 27.
