If you’re a fan of La Reina del Sur, you’ll be happy to know that Netflix has finally set a release date for when the third season will land on the platform. La Reina del Sur season 3 is scheduled to arrive on the streamer in May, so mark your calendar.
La Reina del Sur is a popular Mexican crime drama series created by Roberto Stopello. It’s based on the book of the same name by Arturo Pérez-Reverte and follows the rise to power of Teresa Mendoza, a young Mexican woman who becomes a legend in drug trafficking.
Well-known actress Kate del Castillo stars in the leading role as Teresa Mendoza. Humberto Zurita, Rafael Amaya, Iván Sánchez, Cristina Urgel, Alberto Jiménez, Miguel de Miguel, Gabriel Porras, and others join del Castillo in the cast.
The first season premiered on the Spanish-language television network Telemundo in February 2011. But the show wasn’t renewed for a second season until May 2017. The second season then premiered two years later in April 2019, followed by the third season in October 2022.
The first two seasons have been available to stream on Netflix for quite some time now, and Netflix subscribers have been patiently waiting for La Reina del Sur season 3 to drop since it finished airing back in January. Well, the wait is almost over because the third season is slated to land on the streamer in mid-May. We shared the official release date below.

It’s unclear if there will be a fourth season since Telemundo hasn’t renewed the show, but it doesn’t look likely. Back in October 2022, del Castillo appeared on the TV show La Mesa Caliente and spoke about the future of her character and the series. She said, “I think the third is the last and how it should be (we must) say goodbye to Teresita, so enjoy it.”
