Matthew McConaughey met his wife unexpectedly and 'wanted to date her every night since'

Matthew McConaughey and his wife, model Camila Alves have been happily married since 2012, and it looks like it was love at first sight for the Gold actor.

The couple tied the knot after six years of getting to know each other, and six months after Matthew got down on one knee and popped the all-important question. They had a beautiful three-day celebration held at their home in Austin, Texas, adorable having their two children Levi and Vida as ring bearer and flower girl. It looked like the Hollywood actor knew this day was coming from the moment they first laid eyes on each other.

Matthew McConaughey wanted to date his wife ‘every night’ since meeting

The couple first met in a club on Sunset Boulevard in 2006, and the rest, as they say, is history.

“We went out and I was making margheritas at the table,” the actor recalled while speaking to PEOPLE in 2017 about the night that changed his life. “And out the corner of my eye, there’s this sort of aqua green figure, sort of floating across the frame about 20 feet in front of me.

“I went over and I asked her and her friends to come and sit down,” stating that every man should know it’s a good thing to do to ‘invite the friends’.

Camila was speaking in Portuguese, while McConaughey began speaking in Spanish, which he joked was “close enough to Poteguese that night to be the international language of love.”

The two then went on their first date three nights later, as the movie star recalled: “I knew then. The next night after that I wanted to go on another date. The next day after that, I wanted to go on another, and I’ve been wanting to go on a date with her for the last nine years and not with anyone else.”

The 54-year-old wasn’t even looking for love at the time, stating he was “happily single”. However, things moved fast and they welcomed their first baby, son, Levi Alves McConaughey, just two years later.

The spark still hasn’t gone out

That spark Matthew described upon first meeting Camila definitely hasn’t disappeared if his Instagram is anything to go by.

He often shares cute loved-up pics of his wife, recently celebrating her 41st birthday on Instagram. Taking to his 9.6 million followers, The Lincoln Lawyer star shared an adorable picture of the two wearing matching sunglasses as they cuddled on the doorstep.

“Exceptional ambiance #happybrithday hot mamma,” he captioned the snap, as fans gushed in the comments.

“You 2 ARE A VIBE!!!!” exclaimed one.

A second wrote: “You two are my face couple!”
